A nude lipstick is considered a staple in the makeup collection of many.
As a fair skinned (practically translucent) girl, I know all too well the struggle of selecting a gorgeous nude lip shade to wear that looked delightful in the packaging, but once the product makes contact with your lips, you look as though you have transformed into something resembling a corpse. Concealer lips, anyone? Let’s face it, we’ve all been there, on purpose or otherwise *shudders*. Never fear, though. I’m here to help.
For so long, I avoided wearing nude lipstick because I thought I couldn’t pull it off due to my pale skin, but those days are gone. Though trial and error, I have discovered some ways for us fair skinned folks to rock the nude lip.
FIND THE CORRECT SHADE
This is the make or break factor when it comes to nude lips. What’s important is that everyone ensures they select a suitable shade to complement their own skin tone. This can be difficult, but once you try out different undertones, textures and shades you’ll discover what works for you and what you like best. Personally, I find cooler tones with a tinge of pink tend to suit me better, but everyone is different. Some of my personal favourites include:
NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM –“Zurich” (Zurich also made it to my top NYX matte lip creams post)
NYX BUTTER LIPSTICK – “Snow Cap”
And for a more sheer option, or if you want to add some shine,
NYX BUTTER GLOSS – “Crème Brulee”
Can you tell I like NYX lip products haha #notsponsored
LIP LINER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
This was the absolute game changer for me. Apply a lip liner that is a similar shade to your natural lip colour (I use the ESSENCE LIP LINER in 06 “SATIN MAUVE”) and blend it out just slightly. I use my finger, but you can use a brush if you prefer. Then use your nude lipstick as you would normally. This made my nude lipstick look 10000000% better and even made my lips look slightly larger – win!
I’ve even found that lipsticks that normally didn’t look fantastic on me could actually work if I used a touch of lip liner beforehand. So maybe try this trick out before you throw the lipstick you think doesn’t suit you away.
JUST DO IT!
Who’s to say that you can or can’t wear a certain shade of lipstick based on your skin tone? When it comes to makeup, there are no rules. If you like it and feel comfortable – wear it! Who cares what others think? With the right confidence, you can rock anything, no matter what skin tone you have. If you’re unsure of how something looks, it’s probably not as bad as you think; we’re all our own worst critic. It’s all about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone – that’s how we as humans make progress in anything. So whip out the nude lippy and ROCK IT!
There are all my tips on how to wear nude lipstick with a fair (or any!) complexion. Hope you enjoyed! What are your favourite nude lipsticks? I’d love to hear your thoughts x
