Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for a good drugstore mascara.
For years, I’ve used and adored Maybelline’s One by One mascara, and I can say with sincerity that my heart broke years ago when I discovered that was discontinued.
Since then, I’ve been searching for an affordable mascara that compares, with no such luck.
While on my quest for the perfect mascara, I have noticed many positive responses to the Maybelline Lash Sensational, so I thought that I should check it out.
How does the Lash Sensational compare? Let’s find out!
The packaging is gorgeous! I love the tube’s metallic rosy pink/mauve shade, the most elegant looking mascara I’ve ever owned.
The wand is curved and made of rubber, with short bristles, as opposed to a more traditional style wand.
At $21.95 AUD, it’s a little more pricey than most drugstore mascaras.
Upon first impressions, I wasn’t completely sold on this mascara. The formula was too runny and was difficult to apply, leaving me with clumpy looking lashes. If you find yourself in the same situation, I suggest to give it a few more goes because in my experience, over the next week as the formula dried up slightly, I found it much easier to use, applying much more smoothly.
I find this mascara to be fairly smudge-proof, with the exception of my outer corners, something that happens with every mascara I use; however, that could be due to the fact I have pretty awful hay fever symptoms which leaves me with watery eyes.
This mascara provides me with a great amount of length – the main thing I look for in a mascara. In addition, it thickens and separates my lashes gloriously, all while feeling lightweight on the eyes.
Overall, I am very impressed with this mascara. Apart from the initial difficulty, once the formula settles down it works absolute magic, by lengthening, thickening and separating. I think I’ve found my new favourite mascara. I give it an 8/10.
What’s your favourite mascara?
