Yesterday, I shared my Christmas gift guide for the beauty lover, so I thought I would follow it up with some more general Christmas shopping tips. There are exactly two weeks until Christmas and finding gifts for those we love is something on many of our minds (unless you’ve already finished your Christmas shopping, in which case – go you!), so today I’ll be sharing some tips for gift shopping!
If you haven’t completed your Christmas shopping yet, hopefully, these tips will help you. Some of the tips are more general advice that mightn’t apply to the last minute shopper, but nonetheless, I hope they help.
Plan and List
Write up a list containing all the people you need to buy for, with a little outline of what sort of things you would like to gift them. This guarantees you won’t forget anyone and avoids any awkward situations, as you’ll be aware of everyone you need to buy for. It’s also a wise idea to include a budget in your plan. This can be as strict or as loose as you’d like, but having a guide of how much you want to spend on each person can prevent you from splurging on lots of impulse purchases.
Do your research
Similar to the first tip, research and prepare before you actually go shopping (in physical stores, but it can also apply to online shopping). Essentially, don’t dive into your shopping blind. Rocking up to the shops and buying as you go, especially last minute can be risky, as you can fall into the trap of buying anything and everything. Do your research and look for any great deals so you have a rough (or clear, depending on your level of organisation) idea of what you’ll be purchasing. Having an idea of what you want to buy each person on your list can help to avoid overbuying and ensures a smoother shopping experience.
Spread it out
If possible, try to spread your shopping out during the year. Keep your eye out for sales and purchase items in them that you think would make great gifts. Think end of season clear out sales, or even Black Friday deals if it’s closer to Christmas. This lifts the stress that comes with rushing about trying to find the perfect gift at the last minute – because you’re pretty much sorted if you’re super organised and do little by little throughout the year.
I know it’s easy to say, but take a deep breath and relax. Try not to get super stressed out and caught up in the cycle of gift giving. The holiday season is more than giving and receiving gifts. Your presence (and sanity) is more important than a present (cliche, I know, but it’s true).
