That Was January | Recap + Favourites

The first month of 2019 is done and dusted and whether you thought it dragged on for an eternity, or was over in a flash, February is a fresh start – a ’round two’ for if your January didn’t go exactly to plan.

January started in a bit of a blur, still clouded in the foggy haze that is the Christmas-New Years period (that is, eating all the leftovers while being unsure of what day it is). Eventually, things settled down and I was more than eager to leave the festivities behind and focus on returning to normality.

In this post, I’ll be combining sharing some of the things I’ve been loving this past month with a quick wrap up of how I started my year. A twist on the whole “monthly favourites” idea, I’m planning to make this a little series that I do every month or so, called “That Was ______”.

This is the first instalment: That Was January.

I read…

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I only finished reading one book this month. I received this book as a Christmas gift and started it straight away, finishing it mid-month. I really enjoyed that book, it was a sweet, easy read.

I watched…

Mr Robot. On New Year’s Day, I started watching Mr Robot after being blown away by Rami Malek’s performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. I’d never heard of the show before, but I thought I’d give it a go after reading some rave reviews. It’s not something I’d normally watch, but surprisingly, I was hooked on the first episode.

I ate…

Anything cold and icy. Australian summers are no joke and cool, refreshing food and beverages are essential to surviving the heat. I’ve been making a lot of smoothies with extra ice, and have been devouring zooper doopers like there’s no tomorrow (if you’re not from Australia and you don’t know what a zooper dooper is…think icy poles/ice blocks).

I listened to…

Queen. As I briefly mentioned before, I saw the film Bohemian Rhapsody at the end of last year. I’ve always loved and enjoyed Queen’s music, but the film really cranked my obsession up a notch and I have been listening to their music non stop all month.

I wore…

More lipstick than usual. Despite being a self-proclaimed lipstick obsessive/hoarder, towards the end of 2018, I hadn’t been wearing it as often as I used to. I’ve made an effort this month to actually use the makeup I own and add a pop of colour to my lips each time I wear makeup.

That Was January.
